FAQs on the dojo

What is Steve Sensei most excited about in the future of the New York Aikikai?

Besides the absence of leaks from our roofs, I am looking forward to knowing that our dojo is permanently ensconced in the building that sings with the legacy of Yamada Sensei; that will continue to provide all of us with the opportunity to polish our selves as good, considerate and responsible people; to enjoy the excitement, adventure and fun that is aikido.

Who are our Board of Directors and what do they do?

Our working board consists of: Sharon Dominguez, President, Junya Nakatsugawa, Treasurer, Jennifer Henis, Kevin Kanesaka, David Katz, Vice President, and Michael Parrella. The board nominates and votes on its own board members.

Our board is very involved in the day to day operations of the dojo. They are very busy with the capital campaign right now and once we have completed these phases look forward to focusing their attention on marketing and the relationships with Hombu dojo.

How many students do we have?

When we shut down due to the pandemic we had 188 students. When we reopened in June 2021 we had 92. We now have 125.
